This is a new discussion area around the book The art of helping others..

The book isn't published until April 2008. However, some students on the Informal Education degree at YMCA George Williams College are exploring the themes raised in the book - hence the forum being open now

Themes for the book THE ART OF HELPING OTHERS

Postby rozinajumani on Sat Feb 16, 2008 10:31 am

hi,

I wonder whether writers have pendown exclusive chaper on Helping ELderly people. My experience in working with elderly people is extremely heartbreakening as many of them live in depair, no hope for live as if they are waiting to die.

one could inquire how to strenghten these elderly members of society who are physically, emotionally dependent. There is no such retirement plan for large numbers of elderly who were not associated with civil service, hence no pension plan etc. This has become a glaring issue at least in developing countries where the proper management of funds, financial planning and management is extremely weak and cause dissatisfaction in people's life.

Due to no 'CARE' and no or less finance elderly become dependent and tolerate all ills of the society (from family, neighbours, community and society etc) what they shouldn't.

I hope these ideas help you in developing a contextual chapter on the themes for developing countries exclusively.

Good luck
